No warranty
The software is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including, without limitation, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement — to the fullest extent permitted by law.
The project does not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, that it will work with your system, or that defects will be corrected. No advice or information obtained from the project, its documentation or its community creates any warranty not stated here.
This restates in plain words the warranty disclaimer in sections 15 and 16 of the GNU Affero General Public License version 3, which governs the software.
No affiliation and no endorsement
This project is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, certified by or connected to the SillyTavern project or its contributors, Cloudflare, Inc., GitHub, Inc., Docker, Inc., npm, Inc., Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, or any other model provider, hosting platform or service the software can be pointed at.
Product names, logos and trademarks belong to their owners and appear only to identify those products where this software works with them. That use is nominative and implies no relationship of any kind.
The SillyTavern Vietnam (STVN) artwork is used as this project's own mark with permission. The project is a separate work from any community whose mark it borrows, and it speaks only for itself.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither the author nor any contributor is liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, consequential or punitive damages, nor for any loss of data, profit, revenue, goodwill, time or opportunity, arising from or connected to the software, its documentation, its website, or the inability to use any of them — even if told that such damages were possible.
This includes, without limitation: loss or corruption of chats, characters, profiles or backups; a restore that overwrote something; an installation broken by an update, by an upstream change or by a dependency; unauthorised access reached through an exposure you enabled; charges billed by Cloudflare or any other provider; and anything a model produced.
Where the law does not allow a liability to be excluded, that liability is limited to the amount you paid the project for the software, which is nothing.
Your use, your responsibility
You decide what to install, what to connect, what to expose and what to generate. Those decisions, and their consequences, are yours alone.
The software is a tool with no opinion about what you do with it. It does not filter, rate, moderate or record content, and the project has no way of knowing what any installation is used for.
You must comply with the laws that apply to you and with the terms of the services you connect. Use that is unlawful where you are remains unlawful regardless of what this software makes convenient.
About generated content
SillyTavern talks to language models. What a model produces is text generated by a statistical system: not fact, not advice, and not the view of this project.
Do not rely on generated text for medical, legal, financial, psychological or safety decisions. Nothing produced through this software is professional advice, and using it creates no relationship of care.
Models can be wrong, can invent sources, and can produce material you did not ask for and would not want. The project neither controls nor endorses any of it.
Data loss
Data on a computer is lost for many reasons: disk failure, power loss, a full disk, a filesystem error, an interrupted write, a mistaken click, ransomware, or a defect in this software. Any of these can destroy a SillyTavern data folder, a backup archive, or both.
Backups made by this software reduce that risk; they do not remove it. Keep an independent copy of anything you cannot afford to lose, and check that you can restore it.
Security
The software takes reasonable care: the administration panel is never exposed through the access gateway, the gateway asks for a passcode and locks after repeated failures, secrets are written to files readable by your user alone, and a Cloudflare sign-in stores a refresh token rather than long-lived keys.
Reasonable care is not a guarantee. No software is free of defects, nothing here has been independently audited, and no claim of security is made or implied.
Running an installation where other people can reach it is a decision with consequences, and that decision is yours.
Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the author and contributors from any claim, demand, loss, liability or expense — including reasonable legal fees — arising from your use of the software, from content you create, generate or distribute with it, or from your breach of these terms, of any law, or of any third party's rights.
